The meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chair at 12:01  p.m.

The Vice-Chair provided the Indigenous Territorial Acknowledgement. 

Member Corman declared a pecuniary interest for item 3.2 - 100 Queen Street Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report, as the member lives there.

    That the minutes from the March 4, 2024 meeting of the Heritage Guelph Committee, be approved.

Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner, presented the 9 Omar Street: Intention to Demolish. 

The following comments/questions from the Committee were received for staff: 

  • Members clarifying questions about the staff report on the property presented to Heritage Guelph in 2018 
  • Moved by: Member Abou-Jaoude
    Seconded by: Member Cameletti

    THAT Heritage Guelph advises City Council that they do not object to the demolition of the detached dwelling located at 9 Omar Street.

Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner, presented the 106 Carden Street: Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report.

The following comments/questions from the Committee were received for staff: 

  • Members asked clarifying question about why this designation is being recommended by staff
  • Members asked questions about the historical material in the report
  • Moved by: Member McCarthy-Tilley
    Seconded by: Member Corman

    THAT the comments provided by Heritage Guelph members on the '106 Carden Street: Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report’ be provided to staff and Council for their consideration.

Member M. Corman stepped out of the meeting. (12:36 pm)

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, presented the 100 Queen Street Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report. 

The following comments/questions from the Committee were received for staff: 

  • Members asked clarifying questions about the process for a friendly designation.
  • Moved by: Member Abou-Jaoude

    THAT the comments provided by Heritage Guelph members on the '100 Queen Street: Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report’ be provided to staff and Council for their consideration.

Member M. Corman returned to the meeting at 12:44 p.m.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, presented the 72 Gordon Street Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report. 

The following comments/questions from the Committee were received for staff: 

  • Members asked whether there were any risks, urgency or immediate concern to designate this property. 
  • Members asked clarifying questions about whether staff know if the property ownership is divided and if staff has had any contact with the property owner? 
  • Members asked staff if there was an addition built to this building. 
  • Moved by: Member M. Corman

    THAT the comments provided by Heritage Guelph members on the '72 Gordon Street: Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report’ be provided to staff and Council for their consideration.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided the committee members with a staffing update and that he will be managing the Downtown Guelph HCD project until a Project Manager is hired. Additionally, an overview of current workplan projects and timelines for bringing reports to Council for approval was provided to the committee.
