Member J. Smith requested that "Taddle Creek Lost River Walk in Toronto" be changed to "Garrison Creek Lost River Walk in Toronto" in item 2.3 Clair-Maltby Secondary Plan Heritage Policies.

    THAT Heritage Guelph recommends that Guelph City Council create and enforce an enhanced property standards bylaw applicable to all properties on the Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties, and consult with Heritage Planning Staff on the creation of said bylaw.

    Given that a complaint driven response has proven inadequate for protecting our built heritage resources Heritage Guelph recommends THAT the City begin active enforcement of property standards for all properties listed on the Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties.

    THAT Heritage Guelph receives the presentation, Update on the Couling Architectural Inventory.

Member K. Kvill presented the Designation Working Group update:

  1. 239 Elizabeth Street was discussed.
  2. 221 Arthur Street North: The Designation Working group has begun researching this property.
  3. 41 and 44 George Street: The Designation Working Group is researching the Armtec buildings, which have gone up for sale.
  4. The Designation Working Group is looking at training on how to do better and faster research to keep up with Designation Working Group workload.
  5. Discussed the idea of considering buildings not listed on the Couling Architectural Inventory and continuing work with staff on buildings that should be on Heritage Guelph's radar moving forward.
  1. Melissa Aldunate, Manager, Policy Planning and Urban Design provided the following information:
    • correspondence received from the Guelph Hiking Trail Club (GHTC) with respect to the wooden trestle bridge at the Ontario Reformatory, owned by Infrastructure Ontario.
    • the Guelph Urban Design Awards are being presented to City Council on October 12, 2021. More can be learned about these awards at: guelph.ca/GUDA
    • a draft Terms of Reference for the Designation Working Group of Heritage Guelph will be brought forward for discussion at the October 25, 2021 meeting of the Designation Working Group.
  2. Chair Skerrett announced that 239 Elizabeth Street was on the City Council agenda for the October 12 meeting.
