The meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chair at 12:02 p.m.

Melissa Aldunate, Manager of Policy Planning and Urban Design provided an overview on the Heritage Guelph Facilitation Exercise Final Report.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided committee members with an overview of the proposed Heritage Guelph 2024 Meeting Schedule.

    THAT the proposed meeting dates of Heritage Guelph in 2024 be approved.

Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner, Victoria Nagy, Heritage Planner and Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, presented the 2024 Part IV Designation Priorities. 
The following feedback and comments from the Committee were received: 

  • Requested copy of Municipal Register data in excel form for further clarity (will be provided before the holiday break);
  • Asked that Indigenous perspectives be considered when determining individual designation priorities;
  • Identified a tree that could be a candidate for designation due to age;
  • Inquired about 15-23 Fountain Street East and its status (CHER will be brought forward in January 2024);
  • Asked for update on timeline for Heritage Conservation District projects (e.g., OR complete prior to 2025, DT HCD Study complete/Plan underway by 2025, Ward West Study underway by 2025);
  • Asked for clarification over areas slated for increased density or height within the City of Guelph (will be provided before holiday break);
  • Discussed options to entice individual designation:
    • Reach out and provide education to realtors/real estate agents
    • Provide a financial incentive program for designated property owners
    • Conduct public outreach to provide context to “myths”
    • Focus on losses of heritage features
    • Highlight great local examples of “heritage successes”
    • Research policies of municipalities similar in size to replicate previous policy that encourages designation
  • Reviewed around sixteen (16) properties on the list of staff recommended properties for designation

The meeting was adjourned at 1:57 p.m. due to lack of quorum.
