The meeting was called to order by Chair Epp at 12:00 p.m.

Chair Epp provided the Indigenous Territorial Acknowledgment.

    That the minutes from the May 6, 2024 meeting of the Heritage Guelph Committee, be approved.

Jack Mallon, Heritage planner introduced the item. 

The following delegates provided a presentation on the movement of the heritage building at 331 Clair Road East:

Dan Currie and Emily Elliot, MHBC 

The following comments/questions from the Committee were received for staff/delegates: 

  • A member asked whether other site plans were considered that would leave the building in situ
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that relocating the building is the best outcome for both the heritage structure and the development
  • A member asked if the movers have insurance should the structure be damaged in the move
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that they do have insurance
  • A member asked what will be done with the windows during relocation
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that anything that has to be removed during relocation will be stored securely until the building is relocated
  • A member asked if stones from the sumemr kitchen will be salvaged and reused for repairs of the main house
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that the stones will be reused both to repair the main house and in the landscaping around the house
  • A member asked if the yellow brick chimney will be salvaged and reused
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that it is not proposed that the brick be salvaged and maintained
  • A member asked whether the CAHP member that monitors the relocation will be two different individuals or the same person
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that it will be Vanessa Hicks from MHBC
  • A member asked staff for clarification on the recommended motion
  • A member asked about the likelihood that something negative happens during a relocation
  • Delegate from MHBC answered that all relocations MHBC has been involved with have been moved successfully
  • A member expressed frustration that other options weren't presented to the committee

    THAT Heritage Guelph provides the following comments to City Council with respect to the heritage permit application for 331 Clair Road East:

    The proposed relocation of the stone farmhouse at 331 Clair Road East does not negatively impact the heritage attributes identified in Designation By-law (2024) - 20893 passed by Council on February 13, 2024.

Stephen Robinson, Heritage Planner, presented the 116 Gordon Street (Boathouse): Rehabilitation of retaining wall.

    THAT Heritage Guelph receive the staff information report titled "116 Gordon Street (Boathouse): Rehabilitation of retaining wall" dated June 3, 2024 and that Heritage Guelph request that staff evaluate opportunities with legal or through the Building Code for potential exemptions to fencing for heritage features along the Boathouse property.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, spoke to this item and introduced the newly appointed members to the rest of the committee. Members of the committee and staff provided introductions.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided the Committee with an update on the designation recommendations going to Council Planning on June 11th, 2024.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, and Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner, provided the Committee with an update on the work being done at 211 Silvercreek Parkway South. The Committee asked staff clarifying questions on 211 Silvercreek Parkway South. 

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided an update on the Downtown Guelph Heritage Conservation District project timelines and informed members of the first open house for the Ward West Heritage District Study being held on June 27th from 4:30-6:30 at the Italian Canadian Club.

Staff informed the committee that an amendment to the Property Standards Bylaw is being worked on and lastly, an update on Bill 200, Homeowner Protection Act, 2024 and the municipal register deadline.
