The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 12:00 p.m.

Member K. Carroll declared a conflict with respect to item 3.2 Designation Priorities and Draft 2023 Working Plan as her employer is involved with some of the listed properties.

    THAT the minutes from the February 13, 2023 meeting of the Heritage Guelph Committee, be approved.

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided information regarding the nomination of a Heritage Guelph Member to serve on the Municipal Property and Building Commemorative Naming Committee.

    THAT Cameron McCarthy-Tilley be appointed as the Heritage Guelph representative to the Municipal Property and Building Commemorative Naming Committee

Victoria Nagy and Jack Mallon, Heritage Planners and Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner provided a summary, comments, clarification, information and facilitated committee discussion regarding the revised Heritage Guelph priorities.

    1. THAT Heritage Guelph supports the following 10 properties to generate a recommended list of priority properties for designation research being:
      • 108 Queens Street (John Michell House)
      • 211 Silvercreek Parkway South (Sleeman House)
      • 28 Norfolk Street (St. Agnes School)
      • 167 Suffolk Street West (Barber Glass Building)
      • 67 Queen Street
      • 331 Clair Road East
      • 218-220 Gordon Street (Crowe’s Wagon Factory)
      • 12 Eramosa Road  
      • 49 Metcalfe Street (Dario Pagani House); and
      • 15-23 Fountain Street

    2.THAT Heritage Guelph have flexibility to consider the remaining properties listed on the March 13, 2023 Revised Heritage Guelph priorities list at future committee meetings.

Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner provided a presentation regarding the intention to designate 65 Delhi Street.

    THAT Heritage Guelph recommends that City Council give notice of its intention to designate 65 Delhi Street pursuant to Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act in accordance with the statement of significance provided with Item 2.3 of the Heritage Guelph agenda dated March 13, 2023.

Victoria Nagy, Heritage Planner provided a presentation regarding the intention to designate 49 Norfolk Street.

    THAT Heritage Guelph defer the intention to designate 49 Norfolk Street pursuant to Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act in accordance with the statement of significance provided with Item 2.4 of the Heritage Guelph agenda dated March 13, 2023 to the April 11, 2023 Heritage Guelph meeting.

Stephen Robinson, Senior Heritage Planner, provided information regarding a recent article regarding the Eramosa Trestle Bridge. The committee requested that this matter appear on a future Heritage Committee Agenda for discussion.  

Jack Mallon, Heritage Planner, provided information regarding receipt of demolition applications for non-listed Cooling inventory properties and specifically 21 Dublin Street.

Victoria Nagy, Heritage Planner advised the Request For Proposal for Downtown HCD, has been posted a link will be provided to the committee. Speaker series sessions have been confirmed including: April 26 public lecture on the Baker Street Archeological assessment and a June 3rd Moccasin Identifier Project public workshop facilitated by Heritage Planning Staff in partnership with the Guelph Civic Museum. Registration details will be provided to the committee.
